Student wounded near Legacy High

A 17-year-old Legacy High School student suffered gunshot wounds near the school in North Las Vegas on Thursday morning.

The student, who wasn’t identified, was taken to University Medical Center with wounds that were not life-threatening, North Las Vegas police said. He was treated for gunshot wounds to his lower body and was released later Thursday.

The 8 a.m. shooting prompted a lockdown at the school that lasted about two hours, Clark County School District police said.

A passerby noticed the victim staggering along the street, picked him up and drove him to the high school so he could get medical help, said officer Sean Walker, a police spokesman.

The shooter was still at large Thursday night.

Authorities said they weren’t sure of the motive for the shooting.
