The Buzz in Beatty, Nevada

A caller from Beatty wanted to know if there is an elementary school in Las Vegas named Beatty.

Unfortunately for Beatty, a rural community about 116 miles north of Las Vegas, the answer is yes.

Fourth-graders at the Beatty Elementary School in southeast Las Vegas recently won a state contest to name the state insect with their nomination of the vivid dancer damselfly.

Apparently, confusion over the name led students in the town of Beatty to believe they might have won, too.
