Three hurt in bus stop crash

Two teenagers were critically injured Wednesday when they were struck by a pickup while waiting at a bus stop in North Las Vegas.

North Las Vegas police said the victims, an 18-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman, were standing at a Citizen Area Transit stop on West Lake Mead Boulevard, just west of Simmons Street, when the eastbound truck veered off the roadway.

Police spokesman Mark Hoyt said the initial investigation led officers to believe the driver, a 79-year-old North Las Vegas resident, suffers from a medical condition.

"Something to where he passed out," Hoyt said.

The driver and the two teenagers were taken to University Medical Center after the crash, which occurred about 2 p.m. Police did not release their names. "The last I heard, all three were critical," Hoyt said Wednesday evening.

The spokesman said the two teenagers, who both live in Las Vegas, were standing at a steel utility pole that displayed a sign for the bus stop when the truck hit them and the pole. The stop did not have a bench or other structure, he said.
