Three Las Vegas men arrested, charged in death of Eldorado High teacher

Police arrested three suspects late Friday in connection with the brutal beating and death of Eldorado High School teacher Timothy VanDerbosch.

Las Vegas residents Marcos Coronel Castrejon, 20; Saul Favela, 19; and David F. Rosas, 19, are being held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center.

The three suspects are each charged with one count of murder, one count of conspiracy to commit murder, five counts of robbery and five counts of conspiracy to commit robbery.

Two juveniles also were arrested and booked in the county’s juvenile facility for robbery and other crimes relating to the robberies which preceded the murder.

VanDerbosch died Oct. 20 after being targeted in what police called as "a brutal and violent robbery."

A group of men attacked the science teacher about 5:30 a.m. as he walked to the northeast Las Vegas school, beating him and leaving him lying unconscious in the street, where a car ran over him.

VanDerbosch was taken to University Medical Center, where he died eight days after his 50th birthday.

Police believed the teacher’s robbery in the intersection of Washington Avenue and Betty Lane was one of four violent acts committed that morning by the same group. Another 10 people were beaten and robbed that morning by the group in the east and northeast valley, police said.

Investigators believed the group committed two more violent robberies on the same day last week.

VanDerbosch, described as a dedicated teacher by colleagues and students, routinely walked the mile from his apartment to the campus where he had taught for 15 years.

His death inspired a predawn candlelight vigil by about 400 students who retraced VanDerbosch’s route to school.

There is an ongoing investigation. Police are urging anyone with information to contact Las Vegas police homicide section at 702-828-3521 or Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555 or
