Rene Rougeau scored 16 points and Kendall Wallace 15 to lead UNLV to a 73-60 victory over Southern Utah tonight at the Thomas & Mack Center. The Rebels (11-2) played most of the game without senior guard Wink Adams, the team’s leading scorer. He was helped off the court with an injury with about 10 minutes to go in the first half. Adams, who suffered a lower abdominal strain, finished scoreless for the first time in his career. He did return to the bench in street clothes during the second half. Rougeau shot 6-for-6 and was the high scorer with 12 points at halftime, when UNLV held a 39-25 lead. Oscar Bellfield and Joe Darger each finished with 11 points for the Rebels, who next play at Louisville on Dec. 31.
UNLV 39, Southern Utah 25, halftime — Senior guard Wink Adams, UNLV’s leading scorer, was helped off the court with an injury during the first half of tonight’s game against Southern Utah. Adams was dribbling and backing into the lane when he went down with 10:25 to go. It was not obvious what caused Adams’ fall, but he remained on the court and rolled over in pain for a few minutes while holding his right abdominal area. He could not stand and was assisted off the court by athletic trainer Dave Tomchek and equipment manager Rocky Rutledge. Adams did not return from the locker room. The Rebels, who trailed 16-15 when Adams left, went into the half with a 39-25 lead. Rene Rougeau shot 6-for-6 and was the high scorer with 12 points.
