RENO — The Washoe County sheriff’s office is mourning the death of a four-legged colleague.
K-9 Kraft died of health complications Saturday, according to the Reno Gazette-Journal. He was 5 years old.
His handler, Deputy Corey Solferino, was by his side.
Undersheriff Todd Vinger says Kraft’s passing will be a great loss for the agency, but even a greater loss for Kraft’s handler and partner.
Vinger called the Czech shepherd, trained to work both patrol and narcotics, a “humble hero.”
Kraft was acquired by the sheriff’s office through a private donation by Cal Sierra Express Trucking. He was certified in evidence and article search.
Besides tracking down illegal drugs, Kraft also assisted in missing persons investigations.
