West LV school plan put on hold

A discussion on a plan to improve student diversity and performance at six elementary schools in West Las Vegas was delayed Thursday by the Clark County School Board.

District officials said they want to get more input on the issue from the community.

The School Board approved an application for a federal grant of $250,000 to help implement the plan and hire an outside consultant.

Community members complained that they were excluded from the process.

"All we ask for is that we play a role in the community we live in," said Beatrice Turner, who lives in West Las Vegas, which is bordered by Bonanza Road to the south, Carey Avenue to the north, Rancho Drive to the west and Interstate 15 to the east.
