Woman convicted of manslaughter in argument over boyfriend
A Clark County jury found a 22-year-old Las Vegas woman guilty of involuntary manslaughter for driving a car into a woman she argued with at a gas station.
Prosecutors had originally charged Ankina Myles with murder in Shantel Stewart's death.
Authorities alleged Myles and Stewart were in a verbal altercation over a boyfriend at the time of the March 2008 incident, which occurred at the corner of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Alexander Road.
Defense attorneys described the boyfriend as a pimp.
Stewart was in a "vegetative state" for months after she was struck. She succumbed to her injuries in August 2008.
Myles, who has spent the past two years in the Clark County Detention Center, faces one to four years in prison.
A sentencing hearing was scheduled for July 22 before District Judge Valorie Vega.
Myles remained in custody after the jury verdict, according to jail records.
Her lawyer, Deputy Public Defender Norm Reed, said the jury "did the right thing. This was not an intentional act."
Reed said his client still feels bad about what happened, though it was an accident.
