Woman dies in car crash near Palms

A woman was killed when her car flipped over on Flamingo Road on Tuesday, the first fatal accident of the year in Las Vegas.

Las Vegas police said the woman, who was not identified, was at fault in the 12:41 p.m. crash. She was driving a Mercury sedan eastbound on Flamingo at a high rate of speed when she turned north on Wynn Road, near Valley View Boulevard.

Police said she then turned sharply into the Gold Coast parking lot, where she struck the west wall of the parking garage. She sideswiped a car in the parking lot and drove through landscaping before the car went airborne and overturned into the westbound lanes of Flamingo, police said.

She was thrown from the car and taken to University Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. Her car struck another vehicle on Flamingo, but that person's injuries were not life-threatening, police said.
