Heads should roll down Pennsylvania Ave.

To the editor:

There are 535 individuals in Washington, D.C., trying to ruin the economy of this country and her 350 million inhabitants, and, by extension, the economies of many other countries.

These 535 egomaniacal individuals are playing chicken in offices on Capitol Hill.

Maybe they should take a look at the hundreds of thousands of Syrians in the streets. Or take a lesson from the past few months in Egypt, Tunisia, etc.

Do they think they are immune to having their heads rolling down Pennsylvania Avenue?

They are talking about not paying their armed forces (1 million armed persons), retired military (another million) and Social Security recipients (50 million). These folks have the distinct impression that they paid for the checks they are supposed to receive.

When they consider not paying someone, it had better be the foreign, despotic dictators, self-declared kings and oil barons who miss their checks first. And when they cut off funds inside our borders, it better be to the unpaid beggars looking for unearned handouts.

They are acting like schoolchildren who waited to get to work until the night before the assignment was due. This deliberation should have been done months ago.

This conduct is unacceptable on every level, and totally unbecoming for elected officials.

Getting warm

To the editor:

Let's see, a "cursory" review of some website (Albert G. Marquis, Tuesday letter) proves, within 90 percent, that global warming is caused by human activity. If you go to a search engine and search for "global warming," you will find all manner of "solid science" either agreeing or disagreeing with the cause of global warming.

But think about this: We experienced an ice age some 20,000 years ago, which produced a layer of ice over a large portion of Earth. Now the majority of this ice sheet has melted, most of which occurred before the industrial revolution. What caused this ice to melt? My guess would be global warming (you see, ice melts when temperatures rise above the freezing level).

I would also venture to say that this previous episode of global warming was not caused by "heat-trapping gases from human activities." Point being, no one knows for sure what causes global cooling or global warming. They can only guess, and a guess does not justify a radical change in how we live.

I can't believe I am actually agreeing with Review-Journal columnist Sherman Frederick, but there it is.

Wynn's the problem

To the editor:

I recently watched Steve Wynn ranting and raving on just how bad our president is. Mr. Wynn said nothing will ever get done and we are doomed as a nation until we get rid of President Obama and his administration. Then I picked up the morning Review-Journal, and guess what? There is Steve Wynn announcing to the world what a fantastic year he has had. Profits up in good old China and even here in Las Vegas.

What's up with that?

I understand Mr. Wynn doesn't like President Obama, but you know what? Maybe if he and others like him became part of the solution instead of part of the problem we'd get out of the hole a lot sooner.

The party of no and their supporters need to get past the next election and help solve the problem or there may not be a next election worth going for.

Love the rich

To the editor:

Why are we so down on rich people? Isn't that what we worked for most of our lives? I sure don't fall into the wealthy category, but would like to. Who is this all-seeing person who determines everyone's fair share?

Maybe you could tell me what my fair share is for your kid's college education. Or what I owe to the unwed mother of six to help her raise her brood. How much should I write the check for to the hospital to cover the medical fees for an illegal, or to the grocery store to buy food for someone who has never worked?

Isn't it about time we took responsibility for ourselves and our family members? I am tired of writing checks: The government doesn't pick up the bill, working taxpayers do.

Rich people didn't steal the money from the Social Security fund. Rich people didn't steal from Medicare or force banks into making bad loans.

The problem is with our politicians, the all-seeing people who determine how much money I have to spend to support you. Look into a mirror and ask what your fair share is. Isn't it about time you contributed to society instead of being a constant drain?

Newspaper fan

To the editor:

They say newspapers are fading away, yet I read mine every day because the content still gives great meaning and says so much more than so-called texting. It also involves people who care about the community and what happens here.

This newspaper drew me to this town 29 years ago. It might be old-fashioned, but it still makes the world available to us.

My congratulations to the staff for all the articles and information they put into it. Thanks again.

LETTER: Where were the banks in the Donald Trump saga?

It is the bank’s full responsibility to fully vet people or businesses that are applying for loans. If bank officials are operating in a criminal, lazy or unethical way, they should be the ones on trial.

With the threat of an Iranian attack on Israel, the Biden administration issued it’s most terrifying single-word directive to Iran, “Don’t.” Unfortunately, Iran did.

As a lifelong Democrat, I agree with Cobey Du’bravo’s Wednesday letter in which he criticized Sen. Jacky Rosen’s campaign ad for implying she is a maverick Democrat.
