Iwakuma stymies 51s in rehabilitation start for Rainiers
June 30, 2015 - 9:32 pm
Hisashi Iwakuma held the 51s to one run on five hits in 5 2/3 innings to help the Tacoma Rainiers to an 8-4 Pacific Coast League victory in the opener of a four-game set Tuesday night in Tacoma, Wash.
Iwakuma, making his second rehab start with the Rainiers after the Seattle Mariners placed him on the disabled list April 24 with a strained lat muscle, left the game after developing a blister on his throwing hand with two outs in the sixth inning.
He told reporters he doesn’t expect the blister to be much of an issue.
The Rainiers got a huge game from Jesus Montero, who went 4-for-5 and drove in three runs.
Tacoma (39-40) pounded 16 hits in the victory.
Dillon Gee had a rough outing for Las Vegas (45-34). He surrendered eight runs on 13 hits in 4 1/3 innings.
Alex Castellanos had two hits and drove in two runs for the 51s, but it wasn’t enough to rally after falling behind 8-1.
The series continues at 7:05 p.m. today.
