Mountain Ridge defeats Hawaiian team to advance to regional Little League semis

Mountain Ridge scored five runs in the first inning and held on for a wild 12-8 victory over Central East Maui (Hawaii) on Monday at the Little League Baseball West Regional in San Bernardino, Calif.

The win moved Mountain Ridge to 2-1 in pool play and ensured it will advance to Friday’s semifinal round.

Zack Simon hit a three-run home run and Nick Cornman hit a two-run shot in the win. Jaret Godman had three hits for Mountain Ridge.

Central East Maui rallied back to cut the deficit to 7-5, but Mountain Ridge posted another five-run inning in the bottom of the fifth to put the game away.

Mountain Ridge will play Chandler (Ariz.) National (1-1) at 8 p.m. today to conclude its pool play schedule.
