Here’s how the Las Vegas 51s add up by the numbers

The story all season with the 51s is that they have a potent offense that needs to score enough to make up for a pitching staff that has struggled.

Do the numbers back it up? Here is a by-the-numbers look at the Las Vegas 51s this season and how they compare to the rest of the Pacific Coast League:

GAMES

89  Travis Taijeron has played the most  games for Las Vegas this season, competing in 89 of the team’s 96. Travis d’Arnaud has played the least among position players, suiting up for just three while on a rehab assignment.

RUNS

584 Only the El Paso Chihuahuas have scored more runs this season than the 51s. The next closest is Reno with 496.

-0.042 The average run differential of a 51s game. They allow 6.125 runs per game while scoring 6.083.

HITTING

.341 The batting average of Las Vegas third baseman T.J. Rivera, which leads the PCL. Fellow 51 Brandon Nimmo is fourth with a .327 average, and Gavin Cecchini’s .322 ranks sixth. The top six players play for either Las Vegas or El Paso.

.370 The on-base percentage of Las Vegas hitters, tops in the PCL, just ahead of El Paso. The 51s are second to El Paso in average, slugging percentage and OPS.

112 Taijeron’s strikeout total is tied with Corey Brown of Oklahoma City for third in the league.

8 The amount of doubles by which 51s outfielder Travis Taijeron leads the PCL. He has 35, and the next closest, Reno’s Kyle Jensen, has 27.

7 Brandon Nimmo is tied for fifth in the PCL with seven triples this season.

4 The 51s have a quartet of players with at least 12 home runs: Travis Taijeron, Johnny Monell, Dilson Herrera and Marc Kraus. No other team in the PCL has that many players with at least a dozen homers.

PITCHING

521 The amount of earned runs the 51s have allowed this year, more than any other PCL team. It equates to a 5.55 ERA, which is .01 points better than Colorado Springs, the worst team by ERA in the league.

1,031 The amount of hits allowed by Las Vegas pitching, the only PCL team with four digits in its total. Next is El Paso with 993.

83 Lefty Sean Gilmartin leads the 51s with 83 strikeouts, which is eighth in the league.

116  2/3 Right-hander Gabriel Ynoa is tied for second in the PCL with 116 2/3 innings pitched. He is tied with Ty Blach of Sacramento, and they trail only Reno’s Braden Shipley, who has 119 1/3.

2.63 The best ERA on the team among pitchers with at least 10 innings pitched belongs to Josh Edgin. Edgin is the lone pitcher with an ERA that begins with 2, and only Darin Gorski and Paul Sewald have ERAs below 4.00.

AGE

3,551 Dilson Herrera, the team’s youngest player, was born March 3, 1994. Roger Bernadina is the oldest player, born June 12, 1984. The difference between the two dates is 3,551 days.

MLB

6 The amount of players on the current 51s roster with MLB experience this season: Eric Campbell, Sean Gilmartin, Ty Kelly, Brandon Nimmo, Kevin Plawecki and Matt Reynolds.

10 The amount of 51s players who are on the Mets’ 40-man roster and can be called up anytime without having to designate another player for assignment.

WALKS

404 No team in the league has drawn more walks than the 404 that Las Vegas hitters have. They have 732 strikeouts, which is ninth out of 16 teams.

FIELDING

21 Shortstop Gavin Cecchini has 28 errors this season, which accounts for 21 percent of the team’s total for the year.

BASE RUNNING

28 The 51s are not a base-stealing team, evidenced by their team leader being 28th in the league. Outfielder Roger Bernadina has 12, while the league leader, Nashville’s Arismendy Alcantara, has 28.
