Horse Racing: Today at Del Mar, September 2

Post Time 2:05 p.m.
Race 1 – 6 furlongs, Purse $40,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
4 Fast Magoo – Looks like potential lone early speed, which is the best bet in horse racing; if someone duels with her they'll need their running shoes on.
3 Alexita – Figures to sit a nice stalking trip under Joe Talamo for trainer Peter Miller; he is in the midst of a trainer title battle so every race counts.
Long Shot – 5 Yet Anotherkafwain
Race 2 – 6 furlongs, Purse $70,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies, 2-year-olds
3 Flaming Vixen – The move from maiden claiming $50K to Cal-bred MSW is not that large; ran greenly in debut when slow early, but flew home late.
7 Forthenineteen – This one was bet early and often in her career debut; she didn't run a whole lot, so trainer Ben Cecil will try blinkers on tonight.
Long Shot – 2 Reckless Charm
Race 3 –1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $40,000, Claiming $32,000, 3-year-olds and up
6 Sizzlin's Joe – Sliding down the claiming ladder where he has had a lot of success at this $32K company; these are his friends and he'll come grinding hard late.
8 Infinite Magic – Taking a huge class drop for trainer Michael Stidham; his horses have been live all meet without a lot of winners, this one is in for the win.
Long Shot – 1 Downtown C. T.
Race 4 – 6 furlongs, Purse $70,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies, 2-year-olds
4 Mc Hottie – Of the few with race experience, this one looks the best; third time out for trainer Steve Miyadi, expect another move forward today.
1 Paschalitsa – Looks live among the 5 FTS in this field; your huge edge over me is in seeing the tote board action of the quintet of newcomers.
Long Shot – 5 Easy Grader
Race 5 – 5 ½ furlongs, Purse $19,000, Claiming $8,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
6 Sugar Spice – Has a chance to be lone early speed, watch the early races to see if a bias has developed; Santiago Gonzalez has won over a lot of fans this meet.
7 Best in Class – Martin Pedroza has a chance to sit a nice stalking trip one stall over from the main early speed; regardless, he should sit a trip and grind late.
Long Shot – 4 Prettypreciousheir
Race 6 – 5 ½ furlongs, Purse $31,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, 2-year-olds
9 Sunny Truce – Among the four FTS, this one has the dynamite tandem of jockey Kent Desorumeaux and trainer Bob Hess; suspect the tote board will be talking.
3 Awesome Encounter – Of the few with experience in the field, he looks slightly the best; since the less races the better, he has a shot to improve in this effort.
Long Shot – 7 Dominic's Way
Race 7 – 1 1/8th miles (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $72,000, Optional claiming $20,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
2 Over Par – Was way overmatched last out in the grade 3 La Jolla Handicap; enormous class drop to this first level condition, he should have a puncher's chance here.
4 Know Plans – Rafael Bejarano is not very busy tonight so let's see if his selectivity is productive; he's had a ton of success with Philip D'Amato.
Long Shot – 8 Freddies Dream
Race 8 – 1 mile, $80,000 Tranquility Lake, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
1 Savings Account – Had to be impressed with her winning debut at Del Mar; chance to save all the ground and gain some modest black type in here.
8 Gas Total – Has been very productive in her infrequent dirt efforts; she is bred for turf but would not be the first or last to make a smooth transition.
Long Shot – 10 Honey Ride
Race 9 – 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $70,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
5 Bilger's Sapphire – Did everything last time but win when flew home late to just miss; gets an extra distance today to time her move just right.
4 Almost Reality – Tepid chalk in a fairly competitive finale; she has yet to put two good races together, so this would be a good time to do so.
Long Shot – 6 Lirica Heat
Best Bet - 1 Savings Account (race 8)
Del Mar Sunday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 18/5/$40.60; Long Shots, 9/1/$15.40; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Del Mar Totals - 577/138/$942.60; Long Shots, 285/40/$500.20; Best Bets, 33/13/$54.40
SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY - #3 Island Therapy (9/2) in race 6 at Saratoga. For scoring purposes, we'll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Sunday, Run of the River ran out at Saratoga. Stats - 129/89/$678.90; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
