Post Time 2 p.m.
Race 1 – 6 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Claiming $16,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
4 Sweet Silver – Sliding down the claiming ladder to this new career low class; tactical speed to sit a nice trip under hot riding Mario Gutierrez.
6 Kantina Kowgirl – Interesting to see Kerwin John on this live one; he has been out for a long, long time, so maybe this is his best shot to break the ice.
Long Shot – 7 Poker At Seal Rock
Race 2 – 6 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Starter allowance $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
1 Always a Chance – Do not like the rail post, but do like the horse a whole lot; the winning trend has been rally wide moves, the inside lanes have been like quicksand.
2 Wild Caroline – Should appreciate the class drop where she faces her friends tonight; has plenty of back class where she just needs to remember her speed.
Long Shot – 7 Can Can Babe
Race 3 – 1 mile, Purse $50,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
1 Madam Aamoura – Has had a million chances, but the key for me is trainer Bob Baffert has yet to drop her in for a price tag; finally can be the boss tonight.
4 She’soverthemoon – Sprinter stretching out, expect trainer Jerry Hollendorfer to go with the green light; Santiago Gonzalez is riding well and is in some good barns.
Long Shot – 7 Almost Guilty
Race 4 – 1 ¼ miles, Purse $21,000, Starter Allowance $16,000, 3-year-olds and up
1 Indian Nate – Iggy Puglisi has a live one here, the key is he must get this horse off of the rail; it’s a marathon distance so relaxation is a must on the front end.
2 Blackford – Is protected today after two straight losses in turf routes; has a galloper style which is what is needed to win a marathon distance race.
Long Shot – 3 Wings of Mojave
Race 5 – 5 furlongs, Purse $14,000, Claiming $8,000, 3-year-olds and up
7 Ultimate Luck – Trainer Doug O’Neill hasn’t done much wrong of late; this horse was claimed from him in last, claim was voided, so he drops down to $8K for the money shot.
6 With the Breeze – Another taking a key class drop to face much easier foes; has some early gas so expect Ry Eikleberry to break sharp and send hard early on.
Long Shot – 3 Masters Circle
Race 6 – 6 ½ furlongs, Purse $17,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
4 Unusual Storm – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; trainer Gary Mandella is fresh off a big win in the Presque Isle Masters.
11 Stella Moon – Sliding down the maiden claiming ladder to this new career low class; could be lone early speed if sent by Santiago Gonzalez, that makes sense.
Long Shot – 6 Just Bookin
Race 7 – 1 mile, Purse $46,000, Optional claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
8 Dissension – Don’t mind the parking lot post for the morning line chalk; the inside lanes have been dead, so ground loss is not as big a deal in Orange County racing.
3 Sarahline – The maestro Jerry Hollendorfer has really supported these Los Alamitos meets; he has all kinds of stock in his barn and is never afraid to run them.
Long Shot – 2 Fantastic Mizz
Race 8 – 6 furlongs, $75,000 Contender, 2-year-olds
5 Mt Veeder – Bob Baffert looks like he’s shooting fish in a barrel in this spot; this was a good looking FTS winner and Baffert babies almost always improve.
6 Paynes Prairie – That was one miserable effort in the Best Pal; interesting that Michael Pender wheels him right back, but will avoid Nyquist and Swipe tonight.
Long Shot – 4 Bully Pulpit
Race 9 – 6 furlongs, Purse $50,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
12 Wade – There are a half dozen FTS so you will have a big edge over me; you need to see if there is tote board action that will mean something.
6 Sindys Luck – Despite moving up from maiden claiming to MSW, this is not much of a class rise; it would have been a lot harder if this MSW was still at Del Mar.
Long Shot – 9 Love My Bud
Best Bet – 7 Ultimate Luck (race 5)
Los Alamitos Saturday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 17/5/$54.00; Long Shots, 9/2/$26.20; Best Bet, 1/1/$3.80
Los Alamitos Totals – 49/16/$125.60; Long Shots, 25/5/$57.20; Best Bets, 3/3/$12.40
SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY – #8 Little Miss Julia (5/2) in race 5 at Belmont Park. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Saturday, Flag On the Play ran out at Belmont Park. Stats – 138/94/$708.50; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
