Horse Racing: Today at Santa Anita, December 31

Post Time 12:30 p.m.

Race 1 - 1 1/8th miles (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $30,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

5 Nighttiming - In the minority of owning a turf victory; she won it her two races ago, reason to think she could do it again.

2 Enduring Erin - Her one turf race at Santa Anita was a good second two races ago; tactical speed to sit a decent trip.

Long Shot - 3 Backintheacademy

Race 2 - 6 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Claiming $10,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

7 Eltoninadress - Found her winning ways again in last in an easier spot at Los Alamitos; has an excellent Santa Anita dirt resume.

3 Peppy Bolly - Drops to the lowest level of her underachieving career; suspect she will have many claims put in for her.

Long Shot - 6 It’s Aine

Race 3 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

14 Faringdon Circle - Like the parking lot post for the hillside turf course; you rather be outside than inside on this course.

3 Nicegirlsfnishlast - Returns to turf where she’s had a couple of good moments; ran once down the hill and was a close fourth.

Long Shot - 4 Spy Girl

Race 4 - 6 furlongs, Purse $32,000, Claiming $25,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds

9 Natalie’s Wonder - Shown steady improvement in three career starts; is properly placed by Mike Pupye to beat winners for the first time.

3 Holiday Maker - Taking a huge class drop to face an easier task; was claimed by Julio Canani for $25K three races back.

Long Shot - 8 Take Back Spring

Race 5 - 7 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds and up

6 Majestic Charlie - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; is facing an extremely slow group tonight.

3 Cool Roger - Been away 20 months but changes are brewing; is a first time gelding and drops from MSW to maiden claiming too.

Long Shot - 11 Surfer Moon

Race 6 - 6 furlongs, Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $80,000, 2-year-olds

8 Serbian Syclone - Not sure how far he’ll go, but can be a monster in 1-turn races; looks like another Peter Miller sprint specialist.

3 The Gomper - Figures to be even shorter price than his 4/5 morning line; is all the rage with his blistering late run at Los Alamitos.

Long Shot - 7 All Indians

Race 7 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $20,000, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

7 Chati’s On Top - Been a nibbler on turf with four in the money finishes but no wins; has fast improving speed figures.

1 Smoove It - Ran a clunker race in last; for forgiving handicappers only as you must have a leap of faith she’ll bounce back.

Long Shot - 9 Market Quote

Race 8 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $27,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, 3-year-olds and up

5 Bad Behavior - Sliding down the maiden claiming ladder to this career low level; Bob Baffert cull returns as a first time gelding.

4 Spring Action - Showed big improvement first race off the claim by Bill Spawr; barn has been quiet of late, but remains very capable.

Long Shot - 7 Arctic Code

Best Bet - 8 Serbian Syclone (race 6)

Santa Anita Sunday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 18/4/$20.60; Long Shots, 9/2/$20.60; Best Bet, 1/1/$3.40

SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY - #1 Lawnmaker (5/2) in race 4 at Aqueduct. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Sunday, Senso ran third at Aqueduct paying $2.20 to show. Stats - 2/2/$7.70;
