Horse Racing: Today at Santa Anita, January 15

Post Time 1 p.m.

Race 1 – 6 furlongs, Purse $45,000, Claiming 50,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds

6 Doctor Susan – If any jock can pop the starting gate and go, it’s Tyler Baze; expect a one way ticket with this speedball.

5 Easter Fever – Like the cutback in distance combined with the class relief; can sit a nice trip and come grinding in the lane.

Long Shot – 3 Shh She’s Ours

Race 2 – 6 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

5 Kantina Kowgirl – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; that seems to unleash the power in many maidens.

7 She’s Discreet – Been stuck at this $20K level for quite some time; runs decent speed figures, but shows the traits of a nibbler.

Long Shot – 8 Midnight Dime

Race 3 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $80,000, 3-year-olds

6 Stormy Liberal – With the turf rail out 24 feet, it should aid his early speed; will play catch me if you can with these.

7 Diamond Majesty – Gets class relief from two graded stakes for this; will hope for a suicidal pace and come rolling along late.

Long Shot – 3 Bench Warrant

Race 4 – 1 mile, Purse $31,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

6 Art of War – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; it’s a proven angle for finding live runners.

1 Sidepocket Run – Like the rail draw in a 2-turn dirt mile; short run to the first turn and save a ton of ground throughout.

Long Shot – 7 Sheza Dish

Race 5 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $40,000, Claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

5 Miss Ellany – With the turf rail out 24 feet, it should really help her speedball tactics; big class relief for this softer spot.

7 Lady Asano – Is winless in 9 turf tries, but has shown some talent to rally; will need the race to fall apart into her lap.

Long Shot – 3 Fantastic Mizz

Race 6 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $20,000, Claiming $16,000, 4-year-olds and up

9 Mistaken Identity – Has shown nice improvement since claimed by Leonard Powell; tactical speed to sit a decent trip throughout.

1 Congregationalist – Sprinter stretching out draws the rail; bugboy figures to leave aggressively and take charge early on.

Long Shot – 5 American Act

Race 7 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $20,000, Cal-breds, 4-year-olds and up

1 Lucky J Lane – Like that Rafael Bejarano remains loyal to the cause; will save all the ground and carve out a trip late.

8 Turn On the Pumps – With the turf rail out 24 feet, it will help this speedy sort; has 7 seconds on turf, so he does like the stuff.

Long Shot – 9 Gab Power

Race 8 – 6 furlongs, Purse $35,000, Maiden claiming $75,000, 3-year-olds

4 Pocketball – Has run two strong races, especially for this class level; speed to lead and may not cough up the lead this time.
