Horse Racing: Today at Santa Anita, May 10
May 9, 2014 - 10:49 pm
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 - 1 mile, Purse $16,000, Claiming $12,500, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
3 Silk in Silver - Huge class drop off a beaten favorite in last; her race two back, if repeated, will defeat these.
5 Warren’s Assassin - Appears to be moving in the right direction off many time gaps in her resume; she never really had a prime.
Long Shot - 6 Miracle Merger
Race 2 - 1 1/8th miles (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $60,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 3-year-olds and up
4 Segway - Big class relief from three graded stakes for this; should get a solid trip under HOF Gary Stevens.
6 Willyconker - Key for me is a return to his race two back where he ran huge while facing easier; cagey veteran still has something left.
Long Shot - 1 Tiz Dynamic
Race 3 - 1 mile, Purse $45,000, Claiming $50,000, 3-year-olds and up
4 Valley Cat - Claimed by the maestro Jerry Hollendorfer; is raised in class aggressively, a good sign from a live barn.
2 Big Kick - Draw a line thru last while facing much tougher; his key race came two back when he throttled $40K price tag runners.
Long Shot - 3 Timeless Indy
Race 4 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $35,000, Maiden claiming $75,000, 3-year-olds and up
5 Green Tag - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; race two back is fast enough to defeat these.
2 Gameboy Luke - Gets the ultimate equipment change as a first time gelding tonight; Mark Glatt also taking the blinkers off.
Long Shot - 8 Red Globe
Race 5 - 6 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds and up
5 Cut to Run - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; Bobby Wayne Grayson barn is very underrated.
7 Higher Mandate - Been away since Octoberfinds himself at this bottom rung; he was a beaten favorite last time out.
Long Shot - 2 Time for a J
Race 6 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $32,000, Claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
2 Kerrilynn - Claimed by Vladimir off a sharp win; this is a similar group so a repeat race is well within her realm.
1 Le Fascinator - Always respect Tom Proctor, especially when he used Drayden Van Dyke or Gary Stevens; will be flying in the late stages.
Long Shot - 6 Thermal Nermal
Race 7 - 7 furlongs, $100,000 Lazaro Barrera, 3-year-olds
3 Kobe’s Back - Talented colt seems to attract trouble wherever he runs; may have found a home as a late closing sprinter.
4 Chelios - Suspect the farther he goes, the better he’ll get; gets reunited with HOF Gary Stevens for Tom Proctor.
Long Shot - 2 Tonito M.
Race 8 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $58,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
7 Queen of the Hill - Earned this class promotion with a monster win last out; no real turf experience, but in great form right now.
5 Copperopolis - Makes her third start off a 18 month hiatus; like that Rafael Bejarano remains loyal to the cause.
Long Shot - 1 Sweet Boss
Race 9 - 6 furlongs, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
5 Classy Ava - Ran well in career debut for Peter Eurton; very tough to handle if she can improve one step today.
2 Dancinginthestreet - When Rafael Bejarano stays for the finale, I pay extra attention; expect some improvement tonight.
Long Shot - 1 Southern Sunshine
Best Bet - 3 Kobe’s Back (race 7)
Santa Anita Park Friday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/5/$27.40; Long Shots, 8/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
