Horse Racing: Today at Santa Anita, May 10
May 10, 2015 - 12:21 am
Post Time 12:30 p.m.
Race 1 - 1 mile, Purse $30,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
2 Kyankes - When Rafael Bejarano and Richard Baltas hook up, they win nearly 30 percent of the time; tough tandem any day of the week.
3 Mothernaturespell - Recent graduate loses her jockey to Kyankes; Francisco Valdez has done well above average this year considering.
Long Shot - 6 Minister’s adventure
Race 2 - 6 furlongs, Purse $40,000, Claiming $40,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
5 Stealth Drone - Taking a huge drop in class as well as getting Rafael Bejarano to ride; Doug O’Neill means business in that case.
1 Jan’s Spirit - Second start off the claim by Richard Baltas; you would think the rail is great at 6-furlongs, but it hasn’t been.
Long Shot - 6 Yes Yes Baroness
Race 3 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $63,000, Optional claiming $80,000, 4-year-olds and up
8 Bobby Z Man - When you have won 5 of 11 starts down the hill, I will call that a specialist; parking lot post is a positive folks.
7 County Lineman - Starts one stall inside of the chalk, Bobby Z Man; must always respect those horses ridden by Rafael Bejarano.
Long Shot - 5 Appealing Tale
Race 4 - 1 mile, Purse $27,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, 3-year—olds and up
2 Attack - Slides down the maiden claiming ladder to his new low today; tactical speed to lead or follow close up for Kent Desormeaux.
6 Olmstead - Did everything but win last time in a solid second; big chance again facing a less than stellar group.
Long Shot - 3 Doyouknowsomething
Race 5 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $$80,000, 3-year-olds
1 Rock Shandy - Tiny edge in the hardest race on the card; I like the rail post at one mile on turf and dirt, short run to the first turn.
5 Blue Harbor - Mark Casse doesn’t claim many anymore, so this is interesting; like that he has top owner Gary Barber as a client.
Long Shot - 2 Perfect Temptation
Race 6 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, 3-year-olds and up
9 Soul Crusher - Not happy with the parking lot post in this abbreviated sprint; key is the drop from MSW to maiden claiming.
1 Hye I’m Jack - Speedball draws the rail which is always the shortest way home; might try and bottom out this field tonight.
Long Shot - 3 Cat From Iraq
Race 7 - 7 furlongs, $100,000 Lazaro Barrera, 3-year-olds
1 Yiannis - Victor Espinoza has gotten much publicity of late, but for the wrong reasons; is charged with whipping horses excessively.
7 Kentuckian - After a spectacular debut at Golden Gate, ran like a dud in the San Pedro; key is asking which horse will show today.
Long Shot - 6 Serbian Syclone
Race 8 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $60,000, Optional claiming $62,500, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
1 Moanin - Like I wrote earlier, I like the rail at one mile on turf or dirt; key is to break well and save all of the ground inside.
5 Colonel Joan - This filly has clearly underachieved for the Eoin Harty barn; likely to wake up one of these days at large odds.
Long Shot - 9 Meeting Waters Race 9 - 1 mile, Purse $17,000, Claiming $8,000, 3-year-olds and up
2 Buffalo - Tiago Pereira is one of those guys you say who about; he is very talented and should not hinder you the slightest in wagering.
1 Fonz - Here’s a positive rail move from outside to inside today; like that he is reunited with Rafael Bejarano who is staying late.
Long Shot - 8 Relentless Heat Best Bet - 2 Attack (race 4)
Santa Anita Saturday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 18/5/$34.40; Long Shots, 9/2/$24.40; Best Bet, 1/1/$4.20
Santa Anita Meet Totals - 166/40/$255.00; Long Shots, 81/13/$139.40; Best Bets, 10/5/$21.00
SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY - #9 Big Red Charlie (2/1) in race 10 at Churchill Downs. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Saturday, Twilight Eclipse won at Belmont Park paying $5.90 to win, $3.30 to place and $2.40 to show. Stats - 66/43/$297.30; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
