TODAY AT DEL MAR by Richard Eng
Post Time 2 p.m.
Race 1 – 6 furlongs, Purse $53,000, Claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
4 Popalicious – Just missed as a ship and win horse in last; still it was a solid SoCal debut and proves that she belongs.
2 Lindz Winz – Rafael Bejarano had options and landed here; he is the main man for the maestro Jerry Hollendorfer.
Long Shot – 3 On Golden Pawn
Race 2 – 1 1/8th miles, Purse $80,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 3-year-olds and up
4 Big Cazanova – Bolted out to a big win last time in his synthetic surface debut; ran a career best, a repeat would crush these.
3 Patrioticandproud – Mark Casse has been a bit unlucky this meet; he brought out horses good enough, but has a bevy of seconds.
Long Shot – 6 American Act
Race 3 – 1 mile, Purse $75,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up
6 Noble Bird – Did everything but win last time in a top shelf try; Stewart Elliott is back from his sore rib issue.
4 Nowalking – Huge trainer switch to Philip D’Amato; his work has impressed everyone and his barn is sure to grow.
Long Shot – 5 Silver Torch
Race 4 – 1 mile, Purse $24,000, Claiming $16,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
8 Hey Pretty Girl – Sure to get value from small Denise Breuer barn; takes a huge class drop with low percentage rider in Julien Couton.
2 Woodys Wharf – Elvis Trujillo had options and chose to ride for Doug O’Neill; this barn asked him to come ride for them.
Long Shot – 6 Sheza Eyeopener
Race 5 – 6 furlongs, Purse $25,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds and up
13 Superboot – Hope he draws in off the also eligibles; has run two good seconds in a row, facing a very slow group tonight.
2 Dead Easy – Ran flatter than a pancake in return off a year layoff; hint for me was he was bet to 5/2 so the barn had to like him.
Long Shot – 3 Znelle
Race 6 – 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $43,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
8 George’s Peach – Must describe this foray by Mike Stidham barn as a success; been spot on with the limited numbers he sent to SoCal.
7 Carrick Bay – Vann Belvoir barn has been hot and he just claimed this one; equally impressed that Mike Smith took the call too.
Long Shot – 3 Chilada
Race 7 – 6 furlongs, Purse $77,000, Optional claiming $20,000, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
1 Seeking Shamrocks – Sharp win from the rail last time; claimed by Mike Pupye and starts from the rail again, just needs to repeat.
9 Moving Desert – Ran like a horse who needed a race off a 10-month hiatus; upset chance if tighter off that effort.
Long Shot – 11 J and S Express
Race 8 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $38,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
12 Next Book – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; has run numbers fast enough to beat these.
11 It Is Living Water – Claimed by Peter Miller in last; that’s a good thing as his barn is hot and he can move a horse up.
Long Shot – 4 Silver Dollar
Best Bet – 1 Seeking Shamrocks (race 7)
