Calvary Chapel dominates, repeats as baseball champion

T.J. White went 2-for-2 with three RBIs as Calvary Chapel beat Pahranagat Valley 14-4 in Wells on Saturday to win its second consecutive Class 1A state baseball title.
Cory Welch pitched a three-hitter with six strikeouts and went 2-for-3 with two runs for the Lions, who beat the Panthers for the second straight day.
Calvary Chapel beat Pahranagat Valley 36-0 on Friday.
The Lions outscored opponents 62-11 in three state tournament games.
In the Class 2A baseball tournament in Lovelock, Needles (Calif.) defeated Silver Stage 8-3 to win the title and avenge a loss in last year's state title game.
Silver Stage beat Pershing County 11-5 earlier Saturday to advance to the championship round.
SOFTBALL
Pahranagat Valley rallied to beat Carlin 2-0 to win its second straight Class 1A state softball championship in Wells. Carlin had beaten the Panthers 15-2 earlier Saturday to force a deciding game.
Pahranagat Valley beat the Railroaders 6-5 for the 2007 title.
In the Class 3A tournament in Reno, Fernley needed three wins Saturday to capture the state title.
The Vaqueros started the day with a 5-1 win over Spring Creek to advance to the championship round. Fernley then beat Dayton 3-1 and 8-1 to win the title.
In the Class 2A tournament in Lovelock, Needles captured its second consecutive state championship with a 4-0 victory over Battle Mountain.
