College of Southern Nevada roundup: Baseball sweeps, softball splits

Evan Van Hoosier’s two-run double in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the College of Southern Nevada a 3-2 walk-off victory over Pima Community College in the Coyote Classic on Friday at Morse Stadium.

The Coyotes (5-2) later pounded Northeastern Junior College 10-1 to complete a two-game sweep.

Van Hoosier went 3-for-5 with a triple and the double, and Isaac Shim went 3-for-4 against Pima. Kayden Porter struck out eight in 6 2/3 innings for CSN. Nate Potterf (1-0) allowed no runs and no hits in the last 2 1/3 to get the victory.

Chevas Numata hit a three-run home run in the rout of Northeastern in a game stopped in the seventh inning on the run rule. Morgan Stotts went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and Van Hoosier went 2-for-3.

John Conquy (1-1) allowed three hits and one run in six innings with eight strikeouts.

CSN plays Northeastern again at 2:30 p.m. today.

The CSN softball team scored nine runs in the fourth inning in an 11-0 rout of Golden West College to pick up its only win of the Great Western Shootout in Yuma, Ariz.

Sarah Rivera pitched a two-hit shutout with five strikeouts in a game stopped after the fifth inning on the run rule. Jasmine Fukada went 2-for-4, and Erin Romero hit a two-run triple.

CSN (5-4) rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh but came up short in a 5-4 loss to Arizona Western College in the first game Friday.

Destinee Chang went 4-for-4 with two RBIs for CSN.
