Eighth-inning run sends 51s to 6-5 defeat

The 51s scored the first three runs of the game in the fourth inning Sunday, but they couldn't make the lead stand for long, as the Salt Lake Bees scored four times in the bottom of the inning and went on to a 6-5 Pacific Coast League victory in Salt Lake City.

Las Vegas (62-67) tied the score at 4 on Aaron Mathews' RBI single in the sixth, but Luis Figueroa's sacrifice fly put Salt Lake back up in the bottom of the sixth. Buck Coats scored on a fielder's choice in the top of the seventh to tie the score 5-5, before Chris Pettit's single in the eighth plated the winning run for the Bees (62-66).

The 51s' J.P. Arencibia scored on a bases-loaded walk in the fourth, Mathews followed with an RBI ground-out, and Jason Lane scored on a wild pitch to make the score 3-0. Utah quickly bounced back to go up 4-3 on the strength of Brandon Woods' two-run homer and Sean Rodriguez's RBI double.

Las Vegas starter Davis Romero gave up five runs in five innings. Dirk Hayhurst took the loss in three innings of relief.
