Favre couldn’t pass on paycheck

What exactly was it that made Brett Favre give it one more go with the Minnesota Vikings in 2010?

He signed with the team in 2009, and the Vikings went on a magical ride that ended a late fourth-quarter interception short of the Super Bowl.

Then came yet another retirement and a preseason circus of ESPN trucks stationed outside Favre's Mississippi home, minute-by-minute updates of his daily activities and a plane full of Vikings flying down to convince him to give it another shot in 2010.

So, what finally did it?

A sense of loyalty to the guys that had nearly helped him to one more title? A desire to bring a championship to the community that had adopted a once bitter rival?

Not quite.

"First of all, the money was too good," Favre said in an interview with Deion Sanders for the NFL Network transcribed by the Minneapolis Star Tribune. "The money was too good. And I hate to say it's about money. I felt the money was a lot. But the guys, I kind of felt like even though I knew it was going to be next to impossible (to duplicate the 2009 success) - I wouldn't tell them (that). Sidney (Rice), Jared (Allen), (Steve) Hutchinson and Adrian (Peterson), they were like, 'Unfinished business.' I just knew that it probably was finished."

At least it was a noble pursuit.

Still, money couldn't have been the only thing that brought one of the game's biggest divas back for one more season.

Favre had actually just purchased a new phone plan with unlimited text messaging and had heard about a whole new crop of young females working for the team.

■ FREEDOM FRIES - At times, Twitter can be an effective way for athletes and celebrities to interact with fans. Other times, the social medium can expose a certain degree of ignorance.

Such was the case for Reggie Bush this week, though his moment of stupidity was not an unforgivable sin.

He took to Twitter to pose a simple query to his more than 2.5 million followers.

"Wait this is a real question don't laugh at me buuuuuttttt do French Fries come from France?" he posted.

First of all, it is important to notice what word he prolonged there and how it relates to his most famous ex-lover.

Bush later issued a response to his many replies, seemingly in disbelief that anyone would actually know the answer to that question.

"I love how people respond acting like they knew the answer! Lol! Boy stop frontin you just searched the answer on the Internet!"

Yep, it sure was a brain teaser. Now if you are really looking for a question that's impossible to answer, try to figure out why exactly your former girlfriend is famous.

■ TOILET PAPER ROLL TIDE - A line of frustrated media members waiting to use the facilities formed outside the bathroom at Southeastern Conference football media day, but the - pardon the pun - backup wasn't due to a lack of available toilets.

No, the issue was Nick Saban and his insistence no media members be allowed to use the restroom while he relieved himself.

According to The Birmingham News, the Alabama coach had two security officials block the door while he was inside.

Something just doesn't smell right about this story.
