Goalie takes shot from Lotto winner

A British Columbia sportscaster was grocery shopping Monday and wound up being able to buy a lot more than generic brand items.

Barry Deley, who works at Global TV, had his name pulled out of the bin in a BC Lotto drawing and had his choice of a new home or $2 million in cash. His network was carrying the drawing live when his number was called, and the anchor of the telecast called him on his cellphone to let him know he won.

"You know, this is going to look fishy," Deley said to the co-anchors who told him he had just become a millionaire.

After the initial shock wore off that he had won, Deley got in a jab at Vancouver Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo, saying he now makes 20 percent of what Luongo is paid. Luongo's salary with the Canucks is $10 million.

Deley, who is married with three children, hasn't decided whether to take the new house or the money. When asked on the air by his colleagues if he was coming back to work, Deley said, "Perhaps maybe I'll see you after Christmas."

■ KIM'S NEXT CONQUEST? -- Now that NBA player Kris Humphries has joined NFL running back Reggie Bush and wide receiver Miles Austin on the Kim Kardashian scrap heap, what unfortunate soul will be next to have his heart broken by the reality television star?

According to the gambling site Bodog.com, odds already are up as to who Kardashian's next boyfriend will be. A professional athlete is the early 1-2 favorite, with an actor next at 2-1 and a musician at 3-1.

If Kardashian's next boyfriend is a professional athlete, what sport will he play? A football player is listed at 1-2, followed by a baseball player at 5-2 and a basketball player at 7-2. Hockey is the long shot at 25-1.

Maybe that's because hockey players have more common sense.

■ TRAITOR REX -- New York Jets coach Rex Ryan is teaming with comedian Adam Sandler for a new movie in which Ryan plays a New England Patriots fan.

Sandler told NFL Network's Rich Eisen that Ryan plays a Boston-based "inexpensive" lawyer in the still untitled movie. Sandler said Ryan was "loose and funny" about playing "a mammoth Patriots fan" who talks about Bill Belichick and Tom Brady, a detail that was written into the script for the Jets coach.

Sandler is an avid Jets fan who has attended several games and said Ryan is "really cool" and "nailed" the part. Perhaps Ryan will lead a "P-A-T-S, PATS, PATS, PATS" chant in the movie.

■ ORIGINAL BIG MAN -- Long before the late Clarence Clemons picked up a saxophone and became Bruce Springsteen's sidekick, an even more famous "Big Man" -- Babe Ruth -- dabbled in playing the sax.

Ruth was given a saxophone in the 1920s, and Los Angeles memorabilia collector Gary Cypres owns the instrument. Cypres is having a public display of the artifact, along with many other Ruth items, at his private Sports Museum of Los Angeles on Sunday.

The one-day event will raise money for the Bogart Pediatric Cancer Research Program at the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles.
