Bishop Gorman junior Randall Cunningham cleared 7 feet, 2 inches in the high jump on Wednesday in the team’s season-opening meet at Bonanza.
Gorman coach Scott Cooley said Cunningham, who cleared 7-2 over the summer at a meet in Texas, just missed at 7-3. Cunningham is the son of former UNLV and NFL star quarterback Randall Cunningham.
Cunningham, who sat out last season after transferring from Silverado, won the state meet as a freshman with a mark of 6-4.
“He’s so strong, and he goes out and he grinds every day,” Cooley said. “I expect nothing but the best of him, and that’s just because of how hard he works. He’s a pretty special kid.”
Gorman edged Bonanza in the meet, 72-70.
