HORSE RACING

TODAY AT OAK TREE AT HOLLYWOOD PARK

By Richard Eng

Post Time 2 p.m.

Race 1 – 6 furlongs, Purse $38,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 2-year-olds

4 Mr. Sierra – Much improved race when second in last at Fairplex; should show spirit on the front end.

5 Titian – FTS from Mike Machowsky has been working well; bred to win early, watch the tote board for clues.

Long Shot – Spot of Salt

Race 2 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds and up

4 Afleet Deal – Just missed in last, first off the claim for Jack Carava; Rafael Bejarano had choices, lands here.

6 Adriatic Moon – Dead-late closer figures to sit in arrears and make one brush; big class rise for Mark Glatt.

Long Shot – 7 Party Mandate

Race 3 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $40,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

3 Missdealornodeal – Has run some of her better races over the Hollywood oval; get Rafael Bejarano cranking again.

5 Go On Babe – Favorite exits two good races for Bob Baffert; she still has a high ceiling, takes the next step forward.

Long Shot – 4 Jet Blue Girl

Race 4 – 6 furlongs, Purse $38,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds

1 Dixie Cross – Was no secret in debut when favored and lost a 3-horse photo; improves a step and the race is his.

5 Basic Strategy – FTS from Peter Miller, has worked well and picks up P Val; watch the tote board for additional clues.

Long Shot – 7 Marker Down

Race 5 – 6 furlongs (turf), Purse $40,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up

6 Square Deal – Figures to be the speed of the speed under Victor Espinoza; catch him to win it.

5 Blue Jay Attack – Logical chalk has run two good races in a row; Rafael Bejarano has many live mounts today.

Long Shot – 3 Majestic Afleet

Race 6 – 1 1/16th miles, $250,000 Norfolk, 2-year-olds

7 Jaycito – Has the route pedigree to adore 2-turn races; Mike Mitchell loves him, that’s enough vote for me.

1 J P’s Gusto – Any win beyond 7 furlongs is a bonus for the connections; can get away with it now, but not next spring.

Long Shot – 3 Boxeur des Rues

Race 7 – 1 1/16th miles, $250,000 Lady’s Secret, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

5 Zenyatta – Not much more to say about her; 1/10 in her penultimate race, the BC Classic awaits at Churchill Downs.

4 Satans Quick Chick – Jerry Jam is brave enough to run two at Zenyatta; filly is clearly a synthetic specialist.

Long Shot – 1 Switch

Race 8 – 1 1/4 miles (turf), $250,000 Yellow Ribbon, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

3 Gypsy’s Warning – Unlucky to lose the Beverly D at Arlington; top mare has a class edge over the hometown talent.

8 Turning Top – Top contender if you believe in horses for courses; 3-for-3 wins over Inglewood sod, will be flying late.

Long Shot – 6 Princess Haya

Race 9 – 1 1/8th miles, $250,000 Goodwood, 3-year-olds and up

5 Twirling Candy – Tepid chalk has a big edge as lone early speed; bred to run all day, he is clearly the one to catch.

6 Awesome Gem – Hollywood is his home base and his best races come here; chance to rock and roll as a big overlay.

Long Shot – 2 Crown of Thorns

Race 10 – 1 1/16th miles (turf), Purse $26,000, Claiming $32,000, 3-year-olds and up

7 When We Met – Claimed by Mike Mitchell, expect positive improvement; 5 workouts since and appears ready to roll.

6 Yodelen Dan – Hard-knocking veteran rarely throws in a bad one; 6-of-7 in the money over Inglewood greens.

Long Shot – 3 Silent Soul

Best Bet – 3 Gypsy’s Warning (race 8)

Oak Tree Friday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/4/$27.20; Long Shots, 8/1/$6.60; Best Bet, 1/0/$0

Oak Tree Totals – 33/9/$52.20; Long Shots, 15/3/$27.00; Best Bets, 2/0/$0

SIMULCAST PICK OF THE DAY – 2 Red Desire (5/2) in race 7 at Belmont Park. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Friday, Driven By Success was no bet, Belmont Park canceled racing. Stats – 163/117/$887.80
