HORSE RACING
September 7, 2010 - 11:00 pm
TODAY AT DEL MAR
By Richard Eng
Post Time 2 p.m.
Race 1 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $22,000, Claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
My Man Marty – Finally a horse ships east to west instead of vice versa; claimed for $50K, in for $25K here.
Quoted – Logical chalk has run multiple races fast enough to beat these; Joel Rosario is fighting for the jock title.
Long Shot – Greenwich Park
Race 2 – 6 furlongs, $75,000 CERF, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Bonifacio – May have found a new winning style; Alonzo Quinonez will sit back and make one brush.
Mother Ruth – Bob Baffert has an uncoupled entry so caveat emptor; this filly has had traveling shoes of late.
Long Shot – Holding Her Ground
Race 3 – 1 3/8th miles (turf), Purse $57,000, Optional claiming $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
Achak – Mike Mitchell has an uncoupled entry; this is the longer odds price of the two, just claimed last time out.
Dynamic Range – Big class drop from a grade 2 stakes to a $40K price tag; he’s already earned his keep though.
Long Shot – Scorpion Time
Race 4 – 6 furlongs, $75,000 Pirate’s Bountry, 3-year-olds and up
Gato Go Win – Returns home after two miserable ships to Calder and Belmont Park; like that Rafael Bejarano is up.
Dancing in Silks – Been away 7-months since being a twice beaten favorite; returns to a course he adores.
Long Shot – Spaniard
Race 5 – 6 furlongs, Purse $54,000, Optional claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Always a Princess – She has the most talent in the field; question will be her fitness, this is simply a prep race.
Jaws n’ Paws – Ran well in last off the claim by Barry Abrams; he drops her in class and she has a big shot tonight.
Long Shot – Desert Flight
Race 6 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $24,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, Fillies, 2-year-olds
Queenie Marini – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; need not be much in a slow field.
Alevei – Ran evenly in career debut and was bet to 6/1 odds; slight improvement and she has a puncher’s chance.
Long Shot – She’sawontontomato
Race 7 – 1 mile (turf), Purse $30,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Misinjennuous – Was overmatched in last first off the claim by Doug O’Neill; well placed to cash out tonight.
Lost Prophet – Will be way overbet off an 8-length maiden claiming win; logical chalk, strictly the one to beat.
Long Shot – The Great Atlantic
Race 8 – 7 furlongs, $250,000 Del Mar Futurity, 2-year-olds
J P’s Gusto – Has won 3 stakes in a row the hard way; he’ll be dangerous until the races extend around 2-turns.
Western Mood – Chased J P’s Gusto twice, so we have a nemesis; tactical speed to sit a trip and grind it out late.
Lost Shot – Indian Winter
Race 9 – 6 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Claiming $12,500, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Phone Marybe – Sliding down the claiming ladder to this career low class; rail skimming trip for P Val.
Gotham Spirit – Been stuck at this class for 5 straight races; yet she runs fast enough to keep getting into the number.
Long Shot – Fair Chase
Race 10 – 1 1/16th miles (turf), Purse $52,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
Tiz Argent – Could this be the race to win the rider title for Joel Rosario; been away 7-months for John Sadler.
Marino’s Star – Third start off a 10-month hiatus is a positive form cycle; tactical speed to sit a good trip.
Long Shot – Tribal Nation
Best Bet – J P’s Gusto (race 8)
Del Mar Monday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 18/7/$45.60; Long Shots, 10/1/$21.80; Best Bet, 1/1/$10.60
Del Mar Totals – 596/149/$970.00; Long Shots, 298/46/$482.40; Best Bets, 35/15/$65.20
SIMULCAST PICK OF THE DAY – #5 Odds and Evens (10/1) in race 7 at Delaware Park. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Monday, Unbridled Praise won at Monmouth Park paying $6.00 to win, $3.00 to place and $2.40 to show. Stats – 163/117/$887.80
