HORSE RACING

TODAY AT DEL MAR

By Richard Eng

Post Time 2 p.m.

Race 1 - 1 mile, Purse $34,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Pretorian Falls - Chicago import is transferred to the Jerry Hollendorfer barn; she has shown a strong late kick in routes.

Sheza Maneater - Speedball is easily the one to catch; Bob Baffert takes the blinkers off hoping she relaxes just a tad.

Long Shot - Our Anastacia

Race 2 - 5 furlongs (turf, rail at 14 feet), Purse $59,000, Optional claiming $40,000, 3-year-olds and up

Pocosin's Game Boy - Shows enough tactical speed to benefit from a searing speed duel in here; can repeat with Bejarano.

Rudeameanie - Speedball was claimed by the maestro Hollendorfer; Quinonez will hope to be the speed of the speed today.

Long Shot - Stand Tall

Race 3 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $25,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, Fillies, 2-year-olds

Steal My Charm - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from a stakes to maiden claiming; figures to be running on late.

Legacy North - Expect speedball tactics

Long Shot - Boehle

Race 4 - 1 mile, Purse $33,000, Claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up

North Folk - Could be another clever Mike Mitchell claim; note that Rafael Bejarano exits others to ride first call here.

Only Him - Been away 3-months, but returns in a very winable spot; Tyler Baze can save ground and rate him along the rail.

Long Shot - Angus

Race 5 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $25,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Ima Offended - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; will Bejarano send or try and rate?

Ms Toomsuba - Has run two creditable races and she has more room to improve; if she duels with the chalk, it can open things up.

Long Shot - Promise Rose

Race 6 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 14 feet), Purse $58,000, Claiming $62,500, 3-year-olds

Guts - The most wide open race in the pick 6 with a $140k carryover; like the rider switch to Joel Rosario, value at 6/1 odds.

Enactment - Was probably best in last and was unlucky to lose; Corey Nakatani has not been riding in top form, need him here.

Long Shot - Wild and Ready

Race 7 - 6 1/2 furlongs, $150,000 Sorrento, Fillies, 2-year-olds

Emmy Darling - Tepid favorite in a spectacular looking stakes field; she will keep improving as the races get longer.

Stardom Bound - Unbelievable trip in last, totally missed the break, then came flying late; sure to get way overbet though.

Long Shot - Cosmic Queen

Race 8 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $21,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up

El Supremo - Ran game in last while facing a tougher field; he drops in class and Alex Solis remains loyal to the cause.

Bodacat - Beat a similar group last time at Hollywood, but was DQ'd; Espinoza saves all the ground and will be grinding late.

Long Shot - Makack

Best Bet - North Folk (race 4)

Del Mar Monday- Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/3/$17.60; Long Shots, 8/1/$8.40; Best Bet, 1/0/$0

Del Mar Totals - 293/68/$515.20; Long Shots, 152/20/$242.20; Best Bets, 18/6/$27.00
