HORSE RACING
July 13, 2008 - 9:00 pm
TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1:20 p.m.
Race 1 - 1 mile (turf), Purse $36,000, Claiming $40,000, 4-year-olds and up
Westerly Magic - Closing day Hollywood could be a wild one so buckle up; well deserved training title for John Sadler.
Thunder Bluff - Tepid chalk in a 5-horse field; he may not be controlling speed should Gem Proof leave from the wide out.
Long Shot - Gem Proof
Race 2 - 6 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
One Track Mind - Did everything but win last time in a solid effort; faces one of the slowest fields I have ever seen.
Nationwide Family - Has done two pop and stop routines, now is dropping in class; may provide the only foe to the chalk.
Long Shot - Big Water
Race 3 - 7 1/2 furlongs, Purse $37,000, Claiming $50,000, 4-year-olds and up
Exceeding - Steve Knapp wins a lot of races with big drop down horses; this guy should be fit enough to close well here.
Fight On - Speedball from the rail should be able to clear the field easily; the question is how far will he go for Tyler.
Long Shot - Band of Thunder
Race 4 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $48,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds
Temerity - FTS from Ron Ellis is by Lion Hearted, a precocious young stallion; with 8 FTS in the field, you can see the tote.
Captain Steel - The only horse in the field with prior experience; note that Jeff Mullins has an uncoupled entry, so beware.
Long Shot - Gato Go Win
Race 5 - 1 1/16th miles (turf), Purse $53,000, Optional claiming $80,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Million Dollar Run - She has outrun her modest pedigree to be a potential star filly; gets major class relief in this spot.
Grace Anatomy - Another taking a class break to run in an optional claimer; been away 4-months, she start over again.
Long Shot - Miss Singhsix
Race 6 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $48,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds
Candy Lion - He ran a winning race in his debut when 4-lengths clear of third; suspect will be a very short price today.
I Want Revenge - This race is an example of abuse of medication; of nine FTS in her, seven are racing on Lasix, I ask why?
Long Shot - Blazing Spirit
Race 7 - 1 1/2 miles (turf), $150,000 Sunset Handicap, 3-year-olds and up
Warning Zone - Take a look at this live long shot in a wide open stakes; this would be a nice way for Sadler to end the meet.
Cedar Mountain - Logical chalk in a very difficult turf marathon; the key will be who will relax and save energy for the end.
Long Shot - Boule d'Or
Race 8 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Claiming $20,000, 4-year-olds and up
Common Trust - Gets a small break, broke from post 13 in last, only post 9 today; a repeat race is fast enough to win today.
Brooker - A poor start cost him all chance in last and he was claimed by Ron Ellis; expect better in many phases tonight.
Long Shot - Foul Play
Race 9 - 1 1/16th miles (turf), Purse $50,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up
Dakota Phone - Logical chalk is no sure thing in a wide open affair; Bejarano leads the cavalry charge to the wire.
Isle of Giant's - Ran well in debut for Neil Drysdale and could be taken to improve; offers value in the meet's final race.
Long Shot - Catastaire
Best Bet - One Track Mind (race 2)
Hollywood Thursday- Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 18/5/$24.40; Long Shots, 9/2/$18.20; Best Bet, 1/1/$3.40
Hollywood Totals - 965/222/$1,510.80; Long Shots, 488/48/$483.00; Best Bets, 57/24/$98.00
