Idaho tops UNR in WAC opener

RENO -- Mac Hopson and Luciano de Souza each scored 16 points as Idaho turned back UNR 78-73 Saturday night in the Western Athletic Conference opener for both teams.
Brandon Fields scored 19 points and Malik Cooke 13 for the Wolf Pack (7-7, 0-1), which had won nine straight against the Vandals (7-7, 1-0).
Idaho trailed 65-62 with 2:48 left after a three-point play by Cooke. Hopson then drove for a bucket, and Kashif Watson hit two free throws and a jumper for a 66-65 Idaho lead.
