Hauck's top defensive aide coming to UNLV

Montana defensive coordinator Kraig Paulson said he is following former head coach Bobby Hauck to UNLV.

Paulson, Hauck's assistant the past seven years and his defensive coordinator the past five, said Tuesday he did not get a formal interview for the Grizzlies' head coaching job and decided to follow Hauck.

Paulson played running back for the Grizzlies from 1983 to 1986 and also served as defensive coordinator at Montana during the 1998 and 1999 seasons.

Hauck, whose teams posted an 80-17 record in seven seasons at his alma mater, was named the head coach at UNLV last week.

Also: Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck has had pins removed after surgery to repair his right ring finger, and coach Jim Harbaugh said the freshman might play in today's Sun Bowl against Oklahoma.

Miami running back Graig Cooper's next carry might not be until 2011.

A person close to the Hurricane program said Cooper's injured right knee is "very bad" and could sideline Miami's leading rusher for the 2010 season.

Cooper was hurt Tuesday when his knee gave way late in the first half of Miami's loss to Wisconsin in the Champs Sports Bowl.

Cooper was considering entering the 2010 NFL Draft.

Crosby, Brodeur head Canada's Olympic team

Sidney Crosby wasn't about to get snubbed again.

The youngest captain in NHL history to win a Stanley Cup was chosen Wednesday for Canada's Olympic hockey team, four years after being left off the underachieving squad that finished seventh in Turin, Italy.

Among those selected were goaltender Martin Brodeur, who recently set the NHL record with his 104th career shutout; defensemen Scott Niedermayer and Chris Pronger; forward Jarome Iginla, the star of Canada's 2002 gold-medal winning team; and Joe Thornton, the NHL scoring leader.

Also: A linesman's neck was slashed during a junior league game Tuesday in Woodstock, Ontario. Witnesses say his neck was gushing blood as he skated off the ice, and he collapsed before reaching the bench.

Kevin Brown initially was reported in stable condition, but Woodstock Renegades owner Bill McLeod said he has been told Brown is "not doing so well now."

Woods had 'fat lip' after car accident near home

The Florida Highway Patrol said Tiger Woods had a "fat lip" and no other visible facial injuries when the golfer met with officers four days after a car accident outside his home.

Patrol spokeswoman Kim Montes told an Orlando TV station that Woods and his attorney met with the officers Dec. 1.

The meeting followed three days of attempts by troopers to talk to Woods at his home.

Montes said the officers wanted to see if Woods had any injuries that were inconsistent with a car accident.

Also: Rebekah Bradford got a second chance after falling and used it to clinch an Olympic berth in the 1,000 meters at the U.S. Speedskating Championships in Kearns, Utah.

Bradford fell before the finish during her first race and was in tears for a few minutes before learning U.S. Speedskating offered her a second try. Her time would not qualify her for the national title, but could be used in deciding the final U.S. spot in the 1,000.

Nick Pearson also clinched a spot in the men's 1,000, adding to his spot in the 500 in the Vancouver Olympics.
