Ex-champ Ortiz will not face domestic violence charges

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz won't face domestic violence charges from an altercation with his ex-porn star girlfriend last month in Huntington Beach, Calif.

The Orange County district attorney's office said Thursday there isn't enough information to prove domestic violence. Ortiz was arrested April 26 at the home he shares with Jenna Jameson and their two young sons.

Jameson accused Ortiz of abuse, while Ortiz adamantly denied harming her. Ortiz claimed Jameson was an Oxycontin addict whose relapse triggered a confrontation.

The couple apparently has reconciled, and a restraining order against Ortiz was lifted last week.

Williams sisters to be ranked 1-2 for first time since 2003

Serena and Venus Williams are returning to the top of the rankings together for the first time in seven years.

The WTA Tour said Venus Williams will move up to No. 2 on Monday, one spot behind younger sister Serena. It will mark the 46th week overall the siblings have been Nos. 1 and 2 -- but they haven't occupied those spots since May 2003.

The rankings set up the sisters to be seeded 1-2 for the next Grand Slam tournament, the French Open, which begins May 23. That would mean they could meet only in the final at Roland Garros.

Also: Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal reached the quarterfinals of the Madrid Masters with straight-set victories.

The top-ranked Federer beat Swiss countryman Stanislas Wawrinka 6-3, 6-1, and second-ranked Nadal fended off big-serving John Isner of the United States, 7-5, 6-4.

Federer next faces Ernests Gulbis, and Nadal will meet Gaels Monfils.

Boxer Valero's body exhumed; relatives doubt suicide claims

Venezuelan authorities have exhumed the body of boxer Edwin Valero to dispel lingering doubts regarding his death.

Prosecutor Jesus Belucchi said two of the boxer's relatives requested the exhumation because they suspect that Valero might not have committed suicide.

Police said the former WBA super featherweight and WBC lightweight champion hanged himself inside a jail cell April 19, a day after he was arrested in the stabbing death of his 24-year-old wife.

Also: Charlie Davies is blaming Sochaux for his failure to make the United States' preliminary roster for the World Cup, saying he feels "let down" by his French soccer club.

The 23-year-old striker claims Sochaux president Alexandre Lacombe wrote to the U.S. coaching staff without his knowledge, saying Davies was not fit enough to play at the World Cup and that the club would not medically clear him.

Davies, who was nearly killed in a car accident in October, told French radio station RMC on Wednesday that he was capable of playing in the tournament and felt "very hurt, very sad" and "very angry."

Olympic star Sidney Crosby won't be joining Canada's team in the world hockey championships in Germany.

Crosby, who played in all but one of the Pittsburgh Penguins' 95 games this season, including playoffs, turned down the invitation after being asked to replace the injured Ryan Smyth (ankle).

Forty-one people were arrested in Montreal in the mayhem after the Canadiens' Game 7 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins. Some stores were looted, and police fired tear gas at hundreds of bottle throwers.
