Jones’ three-run homer fuels 51s to victory over Grizzlies

Mitch Jones hit a three-run homer to cap a six-run eighth inning as the 51s beat the Fresno Grizzlies 9-6 Sunday in Fresno, Calif.

Trailing 6-3, Las Vegas (13-16) sent nine batters to the plate in the top of the eighth, with five of the six runs charged to Fresno reliever Patrick Misch.

Delwyn Young got the rally started with an RBI fielder’s choice, and Ken Huckaby had a two-run single before Jones — pinch-hitting for relief pitcher B.J. LaMura — hit his three-run shot.

James Loney added a double early in the inning.

Loney had an RBI groundout for the 51s in the first inning, and Larry Bigbie led off the third inning with a home run. Matt Kemp had an RBI double in the fifth inning.

LaMura (1-0) got the win by pitching a scoreless seventh inning.

* NOTE — Earlier in the day, the Dodgers called up third baseman Andy LaRoche and placed Marlon Anderson on the 15-day disabled list.
