Knicks player robbed of gold caps, necklace, shot in leg in NY

New York Knicks forward Cleanthony Early was robbed and shot in the leg during a robbery after leaving a Queens, N.Y., strip club early Wednesday morning, according to multiple reports.

The attack around 4:15 a.m. involved masked gunmen, police sources told the New York Daily News.

Early was leaving CityScapes gentlemen's club in Maspeth, Queens, when he was surrounded by up to six men, shot in the knee and robbed of a gold necklace and the gold caps from his teeth, New York Police told WABC-TV.

Early, 24, was taken to Elmhurst Hospital in stable condition.

"We are aware of what occurred with Cleanthony Early this morning and are relieved that he is not in a life-threatening situation," the Knicks said in a statement Wednesday morning. "We will not comment any further until we receive more information."

The 6-foot-8, 210-pound Early, who grew up in the Bronx and later lived in Middletown, N.Y., was selected by the Knicks in the second round of the 2014 NBA draft following his senior season at Wichita State. He has played in 10 games this season, averaging 0.7 points per game.

Early played briefly on Tuesday night in the Knicks' 108-96 victory over the Detroit Pistons at Madison Square Garden.
