Lady Rebels defeat Clemson for 700th victory in program history
UNLV became the 50th women’s basketball team in NCAA history to reach 700 victories with a 63-54 win over Clemson on Thursday in the Duel in the Desert at Cox Pavilion.
Guard Danielle Miller scored 19 points for the Lady Rebels (3-7), who ended a five-game losing streak. Forward Alana Cesarz added 14 points, eight rebounds, three blocked shots and two steals, and center Aley Rohde grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.
Senior point guard Mia Bell, who had missed the past three games with a sprained ankle, scored 12 for UNLV, which shot a season-high 48.8 percent (21 of 43) from the field.
“It has been a little tough for our backcourt with Mia out, and her return was a big lift,” Lady Rebels coach Kathy Olivier. “She executed very well tonight, and that played a big role in keeping our turnovers down, while she provided offense as well.
“Overall I was very happy with our entire team’s performance, and that it was our 700th win shows the impressive history that we’ve had here at UNLV and one that we hope to continue.”
UNLV made six of its first eight field-goal attempts to take a 13-0 lead four minutes into the game, with Rohde and Cesarz combining for 10 points.
The difference in the game came at the free-throw line, where UNLV went 17-for-25 and Clemson (6-4) was 0-for-2. Miller hit 7 of 8 free throws.
