Lady Rebels lose again after 19-0 second-half run by Colorado State

The UNLV women’s basketball team blew a nine-point second-half lead and lost for the seventh time in nine games, falling to Colorado State 84-64 on Wednesday night at Fort Collins, Colo.

The victory, coupled with Boise State’s overtime loss to Fresno State, clinched the Mountain West title for the Rams, who have won 18 of 20. They are 22-5 overall and 14-2 in the conference, after finishing 11-19 and 7-9 last season.

The Lady Rebels (10-17, 7-8) dropped to seventh in the conference after a 5-1 MW start.

UNLV led 37-32 at halftime and 47-38 with 16:35 to play. The Lady Rebels still led, 51-49, with 9:48 left, but a 19-0 run by the Rams gave them a 68-51 lead with 5:10 remaining.

Alana Cesarz led UNLV with 18 points, and Mia Bell scored 12. Sophomore center Aley Rohde, the team’s leading rebounder, missed her second straight game because of a left shoulder injury.

Colorado State had 25 assists on 29 field goals. The Rams hit 50 percent (29 of 58) from the field, 52.2 percent (12 of 23) on 3-pointers and 87.5 percent (14 of 16) from the free-throw line.
