Mark Trumbo hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning Friday night to lead the Salt Lake Bees to a 6-4 victory over the 51s in a Pacific Coast League game in Salt Lake City.
Trumbo also hit a leadoff single in the fourth that ignited a Bees three-run inning that included four singles, Freddy Sandoval’s bases-loaded walk and Peter Bourjos’ sacrifice fly.
Las Vegas (9-7) got within 6-1 in the sixth when Jesus Merchan hit a two-out RBI single. Brett Wallace and J.P. Arencibia hit solo homers in the eighth for the 51s, who held an 11-9 edge in hits. Wallace, Arencibia and Luis Figueroa had two hits apiece for Las Vegas.
Wallace’s home run was his PCL-leading seventh of the season, and he made a bid for his eighth with two outs in the ninth. But Salt Lake left fielder Cory Aldridge reeled in his drive at the wall in left-center to end the game.
Figueroa hit a one-out triple in the ninth and scored on Jarrett Hoffpauir’s two-out RBI single before Wallace’ flyout ended it.
Trevor Reckling (2-0) started for the Bees (7-9) and gave up one run on four hits in 5 2/3 innings. Robert Ray (1-2) gave up all of Salt Lake’s runs and hits in the first 4 2/3 innings. He walked three.
