LEFTOVERS: Manziel: Don’t give me Dorito

Johnny Manziel really wants to be the top pick in the NFL Draft.

Of course, being the first overall pick is a status thing. The spot is accompanied by accolades and more money. Everyone wants to be thought of as the best.

But it’s even more important to Johnny Football.

He is a Texan through and through and would like nothing better than to be drafted by Houston in the top spot.

After a workout this week, Manziel told John McClain of the Houston Chronicle just how badly he wants to be the choice of the Texans and how much he wants to be wanted.

“I want everybody from the janitor at Reliant Stadium to the front office executive assistant all the way up to (owner) Bob McNair to say, ‘This kid is 100 percent, can’t miss. This is who we want being the face of our program. We want the Texas kid staying in Texas and leading the Texans.’ ”

He also said how bad it would be for the franchise if they passed on Manziel and he ended up going to Jacksonville two spots later.

“It would be the worst decision (the Texans) ever made,” Manziel said with a smile. “I’d be in the same division playing against them twice a year. Sorry, but you just turned that chip on my shoulder from a Frito into a Dorito.”

The most impressive part of this story is Manziel’s terrific grasp of the chip world. Fritos are tiny, while Doritos are quite large comparatively.

If there are any snack questions on the Wonderlic, Manziel should do just fine.

■ HOW YOU FEELING? — The security situation in Sochi for the Winter Olympics has been a case of so far, so good. Despite all the fears of a large-scale terrorist attack, the games have been mostly incident-free.

A secret weapon has been deployed to help maintain order. The New York Times reported that security forces in Sochi have been using a scanner that helps determine the emotional state of train passengers to ensure they are not terrorists.

Seriously.

“Before boarding the new trains serving Sochi and the Olympic sites here, passengers must pass through metal detectors and place their bags on X-ray machines — just as in airports. What many do not realize is that they are also being scanned by a far more sophisticated system that gauges emotional state in an effort to identify potential terrorists,” the story reports.

It goes on to detail the scanner “uses computer analytics of live video images to measure tiny muscle vibrations in the head and neck.” The system is called “VibraImage” and is designed to “detect someone who appears unremarkable but whose agitated mental state signals an imminent threat.”

It’s only a matter of time until the system is put in place at NFL stadiums and there is confirmation of what everyone already knows.

Fans in Cleveland and Buffalo are really, really depressed.

■ SHOW ME THE MONEY — In a few months, Jadeveon Clowney will be a rich man in the NFL.

But all the South Carolina defensive end would have needed was a little bit of cash to consider staying in school. Clowney told radio host Jim Rome on Wednesday that he “probably” would have stayed in college for another season if he had the ability to receive some sort of compensation.

If Clowney really wanted to get paid as a college athlete, he probably just picked the wrong USC to attend.
