Didn’t get enough mixed martial arts at the Cosmopolitan last week? The Strip hotel will host the World Series of Fighting 26 inside the Chelsea on Friday.
The headline fight features Lance Palmer defending his featherweight championship against Alexandre Almeida in a main card event being televised on NBC Sports Network starting at 6 p.m.
The 27-year-old Palmer sports a 10-1 record and has won his last three bouts by submission. Palmer is associated with Ultimate Fighting Championship legend Urijah Faber’s Team Alpha Male.
“I’m going into this fight with the confidence to finish my opponent,” Palmer said. “Whether it’s in the striking, or in the grappling, I feel that I can accomplish that.”
Almeida, a 27-year-old from Brazil, is on a four-match winning streak and holds a 17-5 record. Almeida was originally casted for “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 4,” but was forced to pull out after a pre-fight medical exam revealed signs of a brain aneurysm.
“I feel really good for this fight,” Almeida said. “I am in a weight a lot better than in my last fight. With the support of Brazil, it’s impossible for me not to finish him.”
Both fighters made weight on Thursday with Palmer stepping on the scale at 145 pounds and Almeida at 144.6 pounds.
Before the main event, Ozzy Dugulubgov faces Nic Herron-Webb in a lightweight battle. Dugulubgov returns to the cage after breaking Lucas Montoya’s arm in April.
Prelim fights start at 4 p.m. and will be shown on WSOF.com.
