Guillard scores KO in UFC main event

There was no question about Evan Dunham's second Ultimate Fighting Championship defeat.

After surrendering his undefeated record on a controversial decision his last time out, Dunham was knocked out for the first time by Melvin Guillard in the first round of the main event of the UFC's Fight for the Troops 2 card at Fort Hood, Texas, on Saturday night.

Guillard proved to be much too fast for Dunham to handle in the standup of their lightweight match.

After several explosive punches, Guillard unleashed a series of knees to Dunham's head and prompted the referee to stop the bout.

The win was the seventh in eight fights for Guillard, who propelled himself near the top of the loaded division.

"No disrespect to anyone in my weight class, but I am the best 155-pound fighter in the UFC," Guillard said. "You keep lining them up and I'll keep knocking them down. I will go undefeated in 2011 and I will get that title shot before the end of the year."

Mark Hominick was all but assured a title shot against featherweight champion Jose Aldo with a victory on the card. He eliminated all doubt as to who should get that opportunity by dismantling George Roop in just 1:28.

"I'm thrilled. If you're next in line for a title shot, you've got to go out there and prove it," said Hominick, who trains in Las Vegas. "I believe my standup is far superior to everybody, but you have to show it and you have to prove it in the cage."

Hominick landed several huge punches before rocking Roop back against the cage. Hominick landed one more shot before the referee stepped in and stopped the fight.

Hominick is likely to get his shot at Aldo at UFC 129 at Rogers Centre in Toronto.

A pair of heavyweights also picked up victories on the televised main card, though the wins were vastly different.

Pat Barry landed kick after kick to the left leg of Joey Beltran to secure a decision, but Matt Mitrione, using a barrage of punches, needed just 2:59 to dispatch Tim Hague and remain undefeated in his young career.

Also, Matt Wiman controlled Cole Miller for nearly the entire 15 minutes in a unanimous decision.

Four fights were streamed live on Facebook.

DaMarques Johnson and Yves Edwards picked up submission victories, and Waylon Lowe and Rani Yahya each won by decision.

Lowe's win came against former World Extreme Cagefighting featherweight champion Mike Brown. It was the third loss in four outings for Brown and the second loss in three weeks.

Chris Cariaso and Charlie Brenneman also picked up unanimous decision victories.

The card served as a fundraiser for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund and was held in front of an audience at the fort made up entirely of military personnel.
