Two of the three NASCAR Whelen All-American Series champions will be decided Saturday night at Las Vegas Motor Speedway’s Bullring.
Scott Gafforini doesn’t have to worry about such drama, having clinched his unmatched fourth Super Late Model title. He leads teammate Dennis Rock Jr. with 348 points to 266.
Defending champions James Wingard in Super Stock and Pete Meyer in Bombers lead heading into the weekend.
The Pacific Street Car Association’s Mickey Thompson West Coast Shootout takes stage at The Strip at LVMS this weekend.
■ NASCAR TESTING - LVMS will be the site of NASCAR testing on Jan. 28 and 29, bringing it back for the first time since 2008 when the motor sports organization instituted a ban at its Sprint Cup tracks.
“Before the testing ban was implemented, every major race team used Las Vegas as a key test heading into the season,” LVMS president Chris Powell said in a statement. “There are a lot of tracks very similar to Las Vegas, so between the favorable January weather and the amount of data that can be collected by testing here, we hope many of the teams will choose to test in Las Vegas prior to the start of the season.”
NASCAR weekend is March 8 to 10.
■ LOOKING FOR FEEDBACK – LVMS is searching for fans to take part in an ongoing forum to provide opinions about the spectator experience for NASCAR weekend. Fans can fill out an application at lvms.com.
