Kirk Nieuwenhuis hit two three-run homers and Johnny Monell added another to power the 51s to an 11-5 win over the Fresno Grizzlies in a Pacific Coast League game Friday in Fresno, Calif.
Nieuwenhuis, who also homered Thursday, put Las Vegas (39-30) ahead to stay with his fourth-inning blast. He was down 0-and-2 in the count to Grizzlies starter Mike Hauschild (1-1) before hitting the ninth pitch of the at-bat over the fence in right for a 3-1 lead.
Nieuwenhuis, who finished 3-for-5, hit the first pitch he saw in the fifth for a three-run shot that made the score 6-1.
Monell hit a three-run homer in the seventh and an RBI double in the eighth as the 51s won for the eighth time in nine games.
Las Vegas starter Matt Bowman (4-8) entered the eighth having given up one run, but then surrendered another and exited one out into the inning with two runners on base, both of whom scored. He walked three and struck out three in 7 1/3 innings.
Danny Muno went 4-for-5 and scored three runs, and Monell finished 3-for-5 as the 51s had a 16-7 edge in hits.
Jon Singleton went 3-for-3 with an RBI for Fresno (41-27), which had won seven of nine.
Hauschild gave up six runs, five earned, on nine hits and no walks and struck out three in 4 2/3 innings.
Chase Huchingson pitched the final 1 2/3 innings for Las Vegas, giving up an unearned run on one hit and striking out two.
