Oddsmakers make Las Vegas team Little League World Series favorite

Female Little Leaguer Mo’ne Davis has captured the attention of the world this week with her pitching talents and charisma.

Davis has even been tabbed as the first Little League player to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated.

Not everyone is getting carried away in the hype, however. Oddsmakers, for example, don’t seem convinced.

Yes, you read that sentence correctly.

It is theoretically possible to bet on the Little League World Series, though the lines are not available in Las Vegas sports books.

If the betting line posted offshore is any indication, Mountain Ridge Little League is about to wake Davis and her teammates from Philadelphia up from their dream week.

The team from Las Vegas is a minus-600 favorite to win Wednesday’s game between the last two unbeaten teams in the U.S. bracket.

Even bettors willing to lay 2-and-a-half runs still have to pay a minus-180 price to bet on Mountain Ridge.

For those uninitiated in the world of sports betting, all this really means is that the team from Las Vegas is a massive favorite to win Wednesday’s game and advance to the U.S. Championship game on Saturday.

Las Vegas is also currently the favorite to win the World Championship on Sunday. Bettors looking to take Mountain Ridge to win it all get a return of only plus-105 against the field. The team representing Japan is the second choice at plus-145.

As for Davis and her team, anyone who believes in all the hype can get a 10-to-1 price on Philadelphia to win the whole thing.

How about we make an agreement to just enjoy the games and not tarnish the beauty that is one of the last purely amateur competitions that is televised each year by betting on these games?

That would make sense in a perfect world.

But hey, betting makes everything more fun. And, let’s face it, that seems like pretty good value on Philadelphia, right?
