Pachall, TCU strike early, hold off Aztecs

SAN DIEGO — Casey Pachall threw two touchdown passes, and Texas Christian took advantage of four San Diego State turnovers to hang on for a 27-14 win on Saturday night.

Both of Pachall’s scoring throws came in the first half, and the Horned Frogs (4-2, 2-0 Mountain West) took a 20-0 lead in the third quarter.

The Aztecs (3-2, 0-1) came within 20-14 in the second half on two touchdown passes by Ryan Lindley but got no closer.

Pachall completed 14 of 22 passes for 212 yards with two interceptions as TCU outgained San Diego State 446-296, including 234 yards on the ground.

TCU set an MWC record with its 19th straight conference win. The victory also was the Horned Frogs’ 15th in their last 17 road games.

■ Notre Dame 59, Air Force 33 — At South Bend, Ind., Tommy Rees threw four TD passes in the first half, helping the Fighting Irish build a big early lead in rolling past the Falcons (3-2).

It marked the most combined points ever for a game at Notre Dame Stadium. And the 59 points were the most by Notre Dame (4-2) since beating Rutgers 62-0 in 1996 in Lou Holtz’s final home game as Irish coach.

■ Utah State 63, Wyoming 19 — At Logan, Utah, Chuckie Keeton threw five touchdown passes, and Michael Smith ran for two more scores as the Aggies (2-3) blasted the Cowboys (3-2).
