Ravens lineman math whiz, drives used compact car

When Baltimore Ravens offensive lineman John Urschel says he got a good deal on the used 2013 Nissan Versa he bought for $9,000 last year, we believe him.

Not because Urschel weighs 305 pounds, but because he's a numbers whiz who graduated from Penn State with a 4.0 GPA and a master's degree in mathematics and has had several papers published in math journals, including "A Cascadic Multigrid Algorithm for Computing the Fiedler Vector of Graph Laplacians."

Sounds like a fun read.

Urschel recently posted an amusing picture on Twitter of his compact car sandwiched between two big trucks belonging to his teammates in the parking lot at Ravens training camp.

"I don't think you understand that I'm living the dream. I'm driving my dream car," he told ESPN.com. "It's great on gas. It's surprisingly spacious. And you know what the best feeling is? You're driving into a parking deck, it's near full and you're on the first level and there is that space that everyone has passed because they said, 'No, we can't park in there.' And I take my Versa and I just go right in there."

Despite signing a $2.3 million contract with Baltimore, Urschel wrote in an article in The Players' Tribune that he lives on less than $25,000 a year.

"It's not because I'm frugal or trying to save for some big purchase," he wrote. "It's because the things I love the most in this world (reading math, doing research, playing chess) are very, very inexpensive."
