River Cats’ power surge fuels blowout of 51s

Michael Taylor hit a three-run homer in the first inning, and the Sacramento River Cats added two more blasts in a 7-1 victory over the 51s in the Pacific Coast League on Saturday at West Sacramento, Calif.

Las Vegas starter Joel Carreno (2-5) was chased in the fourth inning, in which he allowed a leadoff homer by Anthony Recker. Tim Redding gave up Eric Sogard’s two-run homer in the sixth.

River Cats right-hander Bruce Billings (5-3) allowed the 51s only two hits in six innings, striking out seven.

Travis Snider’s leadoff homer in the ninth accounted for Las Vegas’ run.

The teams play at 1:05 p.m. today, then the 51s return home to open a four-game series against Fresno on Monday.
