No. 9 hitter Angel Sanchez belted a grand slam and drove in seven runs to lead the 51s to a 16-8 victory over the Iowa Cubs in a Pacific Coast League game Monday in Des Moines, Iowa.
Las Vegas (58-59) rapped 19 hits, including nine for extra bases.
Sanchez cleared the bases with his sixth home run of the season to give the 51s an 8-1 lead in the fifth inning.
He added a three-run double in the sixth as Las Vegas took a 13-1 lead with back-to-back five-run innings.
David Purcey (6-5) benefited from the 51s’ offensive outburst, working 6 2/3 innings to pick up the victory.
He held Iowa to two runs on six hits over the first six innings before allowing three hits, including Matt Craig’s grand slam, in the seventh.
Las Vegas’ Jason Lane was 4-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBIs, and Sanchez and Aaron Mathews each finished with three hits.
