Jerry Sands went 4-for-5 with a go-ahead solo home run in the seventh inning that sent the Albuquerque Isotopes to a 6-4 victory over the 51s in a Pacific Coast League game Saturday night in Albuquerque, N.M.
Sands’ 21st homer of the season, off reliever Evan Crawford (1-4), put the Isotopes (66-49) up 5-4. He added a two-out RBI single in the eighth off Jerry Gil.
Bobby Korecky, making his first start this season for Las Vegas (64-50) after 37 relief appearances, gave up three runs on eight hits and one walk and struck out two in four innings. The right-hander exited with the score tied at 3.
The 51s scored single runs in the first, second and third innings. Infielder Luke Hughes, signed last week by the Toronto Blue Jays after spending parts of the season with the Minnesota Twins and Oakland Athletics organizations, played his second game for the 51s and hit a solo homer in the second to put Las Vegas up 2-0.
Josh Fields hit a solo homer and Matt Angle an RBI double in the second to tie it at 2, and Ricardo Nanita answered with a solo shot in the third for the 51s.
Albuquerque starter Fernando Nieve gave up four runs on six hits and six walks and struck out five in 5 1/3 innings. Ramon Troncoso (4-0) relieved in the sixth and went 1 2/3 scoreless innings, and Angel Guzman and Josh Wall each pitched one scoreless inning, with Wall recording his 21st save.
