CLEANLINESS IS KEY
In the last three hours, I believe they have changed bathroom attendants at the Main Press Center five times. I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s like you don’t know which place is cleaner to eat meals — the cafeteria or stall No. 3. I can’t remember seeing a waste basket with more than one towel in it. Throw in a television and some pillows, and I’m home for good.
The number of volunteers here is amazing. There are people everywhere just standing around at attention whose job description seems only to be to smile and wave. My Chinese consists of the word xie xie (pronounced shay-shay), which means “thank you.”
I have now said it 4,567 times.
